What would you do if you found your child in the back seat of the car? What about the child who can’t live with their natural parents? These questions will be answered in this podcast.

Question #1:

Audio — Daughter found in the back seat of the car with her boyfriend. He is a bad dude. She says she cares about him enough that she isn’t sure what she would do if he pushed her to have sex.

What do I do?

Dr. Leman’s Answer:

The first questions I would ask are:

  • Where is the key male in her life?
  • What kind of affirmation does she get at home?

I’d use the ole’ TP (toilet paper) illustration that I have described in many podcasts

Listen to the podcast to hear the role playing as a suggestion of what this mom can say to her daughter.

Question #2

My troubled 13 year old grandaughter who ‘does not—-care is now
living with us. Her mom tried to kill her, her father can not live with her,
and we are the last family members that will take care of her. How can we
change to help her heal and start seeing her self through God’s eyes? Please
help if you can. Thank you for your book/ dvd “Have a New Kid by Friday.”

From, Patricia

Dr. Leman’s Answer:

She needs normalcy. You can put as much of this as possible into her life!
Consider these tips:

  • Use the TP example explained earlier
  • Tell her how you work in your family (old-fashioned, we talk to each other, etc)
  • Lay out the basic rules/roles in the family
  • Ask her what she could offer as a way to help in the family
  • Invite her to bring her girlfriends around for an overnighter and pizza
  • Talk about privilege
  • Share with her the perks she can expect
  • “The only thing we expect is that you participate and don’t sport an attitude”
  • “Tell us your expectations”

I’d recommend reading my book, Have a New Teenager By Friday.
