It is a parent’s nightmares. You cried, cared and gave so much, only to have your children pull away and never come back. When you kids become adults will they gladly come around or only come around when it is required.

How do I get my kids to like me when they are adults?

What is your relationship with your parents like? Do you enjoy hanging out with them? Do you ever worry that your kids won’t want to be around you when they grow up?
These are all good questions to consider as you parent your kids, even very young ones. You are setting the stage for the relationship you will have years from now.

I have said this before, but I will say it again: the only way to parent is authoritatively. That is, having healthy authority over your kids.
Kids will resent a hovering parent who is too authoritarian.

Here is what that looks like in a nutshell; ask yourself if you exhibit these traits:

  • Probing
  • “I’m right” mindset
  • Looking down upon your kid
  • Unpredictable

Instead, here is the key:

  • Make every kid feel that they are your favorite
  • Know their likes and dislikes
  • Get behind their eyes
  • Notice and highlight their qualities

The every day adds up. Be a good parent daily. Starting today.
